Built to Seal. Under Pressure.

When extreme cylinder pressure is part of the plan, sealing integrity becomes non-negotiable. The SCE Vulcan Cut Head Gasket for the Toyota 2JZ is engineered for high-boost, high-horsepower applications where traditional MLS gaskets begin to reach their limits.

This gasket is precision-manufactured using SCE’s proprietary Vulcan Cut sealing technology, designed to concentrate clamping force directly around each cylinder bore. The result is exceptional sealing performance under extreme combustion pressures — ideal for turbocharged and race-focused 2JZ builds.

Trusted by engine builders worldwide, this gasket is commonly used in drag racing, high-boost street builds, and competition engines where reliability is critical.

Product Specs

  • Bore Diameter: It has a 3.426-inch (87.00mm) bore diameter.
  • Compressed Thickness: The compressed thickness is 0.063 inches (1.60mm).
  • Material: The gasket features a hybrid design, combining a pliable, perforated metal-core composite body to eliminate coolant/oil leaks with a solid stainless steel cut-ring that bites into the cylinder head to prevent combustion pressure leaks.
  • Special Features: No machining is required for installation, and no additional sealant is needed.
  • Engine Compatibility: It is specifically designed for the Toyota 2JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GE engines.
  • Performance Sealing: According to RealStreetPerformance.com, the gasket's sealing capability exceeds 16:1 static compression ratios and 35 lbs of forced induction.

How Does It Work?

The SCE Vulcan Cut-Ring Head Gasket functions as a hybrid system that separates the tasks of sealing fluids (coolant/oil) and sealing combustion pressure into two distinct mechanical components.

1. Dual-Component Sealing Mechanism
  • The Gasket Body (Fluid Seal): The main body is a pliable, perforated metal-core composite. Its primary role is to seal oil and coolant passages. Because it is composite, it can "track" with heat cycling (expanding and contracting as the engine warms and cools) to prevent leaks over time.
  • The Cut-Rings (Combustion Seal): These are solid stainless steel rings (AISI 304 type) placed around each cylinder bore. They are separate from the main body and feature "micro-ridges" on the top side.
2. How the "Cut-Ring" Works

When the cylinder head is torqued down, the clamp load is concentrated on these stainless steel rings rather than the entire gasket surface.

  • The "Bite": The micro-ridges on the top of the ring are designed to physically "bite" or embed into the softer aluminum of the cylinder head.
  • Positive Barrier: This creates a mechanical "lock" or fire-ring barrier that prevents extreme combustion pressures from escaping, which is why it is rated for high-performance use (up to 35 lbs of boost and 16:1 compression).
  • Block Side: The bottom of the ring is flat and smooth, designed to rest firmly against the engine block or sleeve.
3. Installation Principles
  • No Machining Required: Unlike traditional "O-ringing" a block, which requires cutting a groove into the metal, the
    Vulcan Cut-Ring is "bolt-on ready".
  • Orientation: The rings must be installed with the ridges facing up (toward the cylinder head) and the flat side facing down (toward the engine block).
  • No Sealant Needed: The gasket body is pre-coated with a polymer and features silicone bead seals around critical fluid passages, eliminating the need for additional RTV or spray adhesives.
  • Re-Torquing: For performance applications, it is strongly recommended to re-torque the head studs after the initial heat cycle to ensure the rings have fully seated.
