Features and Solutions
Focusing on what's important
Material Strength
The OEM timing belt tensioner is made from cast aluminum. As the power produced by the 2JZ engine increases, this weak material is no longer adequate. Powerhouse not only solved this problem, but we attacked it with a 10lb sledgehammer.
The PHR Timing Belt Tensioner is made for 4130 Chromoly Steel. This is not only a superior material to the cast aluminum, but is even stronger than standard steels.
Zinc Plating
To prevent corrosion and rust, we've plated these with a silver zinc, that not only protects the metal, but also looks amazing.
Brass Bushing
We've included a brass bushing to protect the steels on the tensioner and on the tensioner pivot bolt. The brass material allows has low friction allowing for proper pivot and the tensioner moves back and for removing belt slop and over-tension. It is also replaceable
We recommend lubricating the inside of the bushing with a motor oil or grease. But don't overdo it! A very small amount is all that is needed, any excess will end up on your timing belt.
Hardened Steel Pin
Like the factory tensioner, we've included a hardened steel pin that presses into the tensioner to protect the metal. While the 4130 steel would likely be adequate, installing the hardened pin reduces wear even further.
